The Treaty of Paris

    In April, 1782, Congress sent three representatives to Paris. Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and John Jay met with the British, where they worked out a treaty, or a formal agreement of peace. Under the Treaty of Paris, the colonies were given complete independence and a great amount of land. Congress ratified the treaty in 1783.
