The Revolutionary War

Battle of Trenton

Picture

General George Washington's troops had been camped at Valley Vorge during a long, freezing winter. Spirits were low and many soldiers deserted the army. General Washington decided that he needed to do something big in order to keep his army together. On Christmas Eve, he launched a surprise attack on the Hessians, which were troops hired by the British, which was greatly successful. Although his men were freezing and poorly clothed, the surprise attack raised the spirits of the entire Continental Army.
