Declaration of Independence

As the idea of independence began to spread throughout the colonies, due to Thomas Paine's pamphlet Common Sense, many of the colonies began to set up their own governments. When the colonies began to push for independence, Congress met and voted for a committee to write a Declaration of Independence. This declaration stated that every citizen has natural rights, listed the ways that King George had misused his power, and stated that the colonies were becoming independent states.
