The Revolutionary War

Boston Tea Party

Parliament still did not have enough money from the colonists and the British East India company, which sold tea and other goods from Asia, was going broke. In order to help the company, Parliament allowed it to sell tea directly to the colonists. This tea cost even less than smuggled tea, however the colonists were still angry. In November of 1773, three ships carrying tea came into the harbor. For weeks, the colonists did not allow the tea to be taken off the ships. Then, in December, the colonists dressed up as Indians, boarded the ships, and dumped all of the tea into the harbor. However, the tea was the only thing that they destroyed, except for one padlock, which was replaced quickly.
