The Revolutionary War

Battle of Yorktown

British Commander Lord Cornwallis strongly believed that he could win the south with his 7,000 troops. However, General George Washington and French General Rochambeau moved quickly and trapped Cornwallis's army on a peninsula. French warships battled for four days on the coast then Washington's army attacked Yorktown. Cornwallis was forced to surrender his army to Washington. This final victory for the Americans won the war.
